★ The platform

What Sound Afrik is.

Sound Afrik is a monthly open mic, live music night and creative network built to give emerging artists the stage, and the connections, they deserve. It grew out of Liberti Festival, where more than 20 performers, from singers and DJs to fire twirlers, showed us how much talent was waiting in our community for a spotlight. Every month we bring together up-and-coming and seasoned performers for great vocals, live beats, spoken word and home-grown lyrical genius. Beyond the stage, Sound Afrik is a creative network for African and BIPOC artists, producers, DJs, photographers and creatives to meet, collaborate and grow together, with time to network built into every event. Whether you’re stepping on stage for the first time, looking for your next collaborator or just want to discover Brisbane’s next big voice, Sound Afrik has got you. Come to listen, come to connect, or come to take the mic.

★ Word of mouth

What people say about Sound Afrik.

  • Sound Afrik was the first place where the mic actually felt like mine. Two years later, I’m opening at Liberti Festival. Nobody else in Brisbane is building a pathway for artists like this.
